I have a 35 ft tall cedar tree I need cut down in my back yard. I have no money so want to offer it for free. One guy came to look today and was going to cut and take off for free because he makes cedar furniture, but he said the tree wasn’t growing straight enough. I’ve heard Cedar wood isn’t good for wood stoves ( we use them a lot around here) and so what else would someone want this cedar tree for that would make them come and cut it down and take it away for free because it is valuable to them. ?
Cedar makes great mulch. You have to cut the wood down enough to be able to put it in a mulcher, but when you are done the mulch is outstanding. Their has to be somebody that will take it. You can burn cedar but I don’t know the effect it will have on the chimney as far as soot. I know it does not heat as well as oak or hickory but smells good burning. People also use cedar for siding and shingles and even cook trout on cedar slabs. Their are many uses for cedar.
Bought a beautiful hand made full log-bedroom set of red cedar. The tops of the dressers and night stands are of about 3/4 inch planed red cedar and have split. Not sure how long ago as we use runners on top. They were good at least through the first dry season. Both pieces we have had two years. We lacqured them on the outside but not on the inside so as to take adventage of the cedar smell. Aparently this was a mistake. ? is if we can get them into a humid environment will the cracks close up a bit so we can put some wood filler in the cracks and then seal the inside also. Any ideas appreciated.
The dresser has two narrow cracks/splits about foot long. The night stand is wider maybe 1/8 inch and runs end to end, both are right in the plank not where the planks are joined. They have 2 inch cedar 1/4 rounds framing them.
Adevilch~ it cannot be clamped. As I stated the top is "framed" or bordered with 2 inch cedar quarter-round. Thanks for taking the time to answer though.
You need to remove any finish you put on and then boil a towel in a pot of water and lay it on the top(damp not soaked) .. it will get the crack closer.. let it sit there for about a 1/2 hour this will make the wood swell but it will also raise the grain a little, so you will have to let it dry overnight and sand back down with 220 grit paper. then save you sanding dust and mix it with a stainable wood glue and fill any remaining crack with that, then refinish BOTH sides
good luck

Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route…
I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" & have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.
I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what’s out there.
Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free & a great place to start, so I’d try them out first.
Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending & registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.
There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I’m not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You’ll also want to check domain names & yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Looking to buy rustic, white cedar log furniture for an outdoor deck. Looked at some at a local manufacturer and sat right in some sap. The chair had been treated with Sikkens, is it normal for white cedar furniture (aged or new) to produce sap? How long or often? Any tips on safeguarding? Thanks.
If it truely cedar, especially white cedar, you will never have any sap come out of it, a lot of manufacturers are building the log furniture with pine(lots of sap) to cheapen the expenses of building the log furniture, I know of a great site , its www.simply-cedar.com they build it and ship free of charge
