I just got married and am now finding it difficult to share my closet. It’s a large closet, but I had it filled before. I moved some stuff out so he has room, but what do I do with my things. I got rid of the clothes i don’t use, but i still have alot. Any organization ideas??? I tried using the guest room closet, but then i need to move everything out when my parents visit.

I ran into the same problem. We went to Lowes/Home depot and got another rod to put under the permanent one to hang clothes on. For ours, we had to get a 2×4 to nail into the studs in the wall for support. goodluck

get them re-organized. check out Home depot for easy install shelving units and hanger racks (like California closet stuff). its amazing how much more room you can get out of a closet simply by doing that. we had a pretty big closet (older house) that simply had the one rod going across the top with a shelf above that- we removed that, divided the closet down the middle with two hanging racks on one side and large shelves on the other.

A Closet Organizer is an accessory that you can put in your bedroom closet to help you get things organized around the house. Belongings like shoes, bags, clothes, and other items can be put away nice and orderly to make your home look more spacious and clean.
You can use a closet organizer almost anywhere in your house – bathrooms, existing closets, coat closets, and more. So when exactly do you need to use closet organizers?
You will notice a need for closet organizers when you have more stuff to store but seem to run out of places to put them. The job of a closet organizer, is to help you maximize every inch of storage space that you have. For example, you might have a closet filled with luggages. But luggage bags tend to come in countless different shapes and sizes. So now, there are huge gaps in between the luggages that are left unused. To help get things organized, you can make full use of these gaps by installing closet organizers. Now you can store tons of things in the same closet, in a way that you never dreamed possible.
There are all sorts of types of closet organizers. There are complete closet systems that come included with rails and racks, and there are basic systems like wire closet organizers. Picking out the right closet organizer relies on several factors.
Of course, the first thing to think about is the general look of your closet. You want to choose something that matches with the existing look, almost as if your closet organizers came with your closet. If the closet organizers appear too out of place, that might spoil the design of your closet.
The next thing you need to consider is the layout of your closet. Use this as an opportunity to think about how you can maximize the use of space within the closet. When you have a concept of where everything goes, it’s easier to locate the right set of closet organizers.
Also, you need to be mindful of the weight issue. What are you placing on the shelves? If you are going to put something heavy on the shelves, especially if it’s for a long duration of time, perhaps it’s smart to shop for a brand that is known for reliability.
Closet organizer brands that are known to be more reliable, in most cases, have their products made out of higher quality materials. Therefore, they are more durable, and do not fall apart easily. But if you are looking just for something just to get your belts organized, then durability might not be as important.
In conclusion, remember that there are no absolute rules to closet organization. Many people have been able to organize their closets using exclusively Do-It-Yourself (DIY) systems. Know that closet organization is all about using rails, shelves and racks. If you have an understanding of how to get this equipment to fit neatly into your closet, you can always try doing it yourself. Being able to do it yourself affords you a ton of control over how you want to organize your closet. So don’t be afraid to give it a try.

Custom organized closets first became popular in the early eighties. Several companies were started with their sole purpose being to help homeowners organize their closets. The idea was to show people how using a different approach to how they stored the items in their closet could make their closets much more user friendly. Since the success of those companies, many other businesses from national enterprises, and franchise owners to independent local stores have hopped on the bandwagon offering a wide array of service options for organizing your closet. Other companies offer ideas, tools and accessories for the do-it-yourself homeowner looking to transform their closet from a cluttered mess to an organized user friendly space.
Most Companies specializing in closet organization offer what is called closet system design. Basically they schedule an appointment with you for an in home visit. After the meeting they will analysis your needs and recommend the appropriate system for your needs.
To get the most out of your free custom closets consult, you should take a few steps to prepare for the meeting first. Most of us have items in our closet we never use; it would be a waste of money to pay for their continued storage. So the first thing you want to do before your appointment is to get rid of all that stuff youve got piled in the closet unnecessarily taking up space. A good rule of thumb that can help you with this is to remove items you havent worn or used in over a year, or dont really love. Of course, there will be some things that fit into that category that have sentimental value that you have to keep like your wedding dress from twenty years ago. The question is, does it need to be in the closet? Perhaps it could easily be boxed up and stored somewhere else like the attic. Once youve gotten rid of all the unnecessary stuff, take an inventory of the items you will actually being storing. Custom closet organizers offer a great service; however, there are also a lot of great do-it-yourself products available as well. Does your company provide a warranty?
What type of hardware will you use: metal or plastic?
How deep will the shelves be?
Does the price of installation include removal of the old closet?
Will you be responsible for paint touch ups and dry wall if needed?
After you select the design system and features that you want, you need to take action and get started. If you plan on completing the project yourself, you should plan on a full weekend to do the job done properly. If you are hiring a professional service provider, you will need schedule the delivery and installation date. You should set the date during a period when you can be home to answer any questions the installer might have.
Once the project is complete, you can stop, and take a moment to admire your new closet and the fact that there is a place for everything and everything is in its place.

If you are constantly looking for your belongings in an overstuffed closet, chances are that you are not utilizing all of the closet space available. Many people have more closet space than they realize. Extra space can go unused or can become a magnet for clutter. If opening your closet doors or even approaching your closet to find an outfit to wear is something that you dread, it might be time to give your closet a makeover.
Start by finding clothes that no longer fit or are not “in style” anymore. Old clothing can be donated to charity or handed down to other friends or family members. Giving clothes away is a great gesture. You can feel good about helping others while working on taming your wild closet.
Sorting old clothes may not have much effect on the mess on the floor, but the available space in the closet should increase. Closet clutter happens, in most cases, because the space within the closet is not being used to its fullest potential. A messy closet makes it harder to find what you want. This can be quite stressful. Also, piling up clothes is not often the best, or the most space conscious, ways to utilize your closet space. You can reduce stress and organize your wardrobe with a few inexpensive ideas for maximizing closet space.
Here are some easy and affordable tips you can use for making the most out of your closet space:
The Clothing Rod
· A plastic cover designed to slip over or snap onto closet rods can help clothes on hangers glide more smoothly as you move them across the rod. These closet rod covers are typically plastic or made from another material. Rods such as these can be easily maintained by wiping the cover with a cloth to keep dust off the rod, and your clothes.
· Belt trees that generally take up not much more space than that of one and a half, or two regular hangers, are terrific for hanging your belts for easy access to them.
· Ladder-type hangers allow you to hang several pairs of jeans on one hanger, using space in your closet you may have ignored, and creating even more space for hanging additional clothing.
· Cloth and plastic caddies with a Velcro or snap for attaching to the rod can store socks, t-shirts, shorts, bras, panties, shoes, and more.
· Hanging wardrobes for travelling are not just for when you go away. Use these special hangers in your closet to keep your finer clothes protected from dust and dirt. Place a scented dryer sheet inside to help clothes stay smelling fresh. Replace the dryer sheet every 3 to 4 months.
Above the Clothing Rod
· Install shelves above the clothing rod in your closet to utilize the available space there. Today there are many designs in closet shelving to help you customize this hard to reach space to fit your needs.
· Small and stackable storage containers fit nicely on closet shelves and you can use them for storing a wide assortment of clothing and accessories.
· Hooks on the underside of closet shelves are useful for hanging short, lightweight items.
· Adding one or more portable LED lights under a shelf will provide you with extra lighting where you need it.
Closet Walls
· Hooks are great for hanging purses, beach bags and hats, scarves, robes, and other accessories.
· Sidewall shelves utilize space above and below the clothing rod that otherwise would be a missed opportunity for organizing your belongings.
· Shoe racks attached to a sidewall in your closet are nice if they do not take up too much space on your closet rod. You can use shoe racks for more than just storing footwear.
Floor
· Angled risers anchored against the back wall of your closet can hold shoes, boots, and even handbags.
· Boxes made of plastic or durable cardboard and placed on your closet floor are colorful and decorative accents, which also function as storage for a variety of items in your closet. Choosing styles of differing heights and lengths provides you with multiple storage options.
With these suggestions for maximizing the usage of the space in your closet, you can create a closet that keeps everything neat and readily accessible when you need it. Dressing for work or a night out with family and friends will no longer be the exercise in frustration and disgust it was when the “clutter-monster” ruled your closet.
If you have an overstuffed or unorganized closet, you might be wondering where to start. Looking for closet organizers, shelving, jeans and pants hangers, and other specially designed hangers is a great first step. Take a look at some caddies, trees, and other closet aids online. With these helpful products and a commitment to cleaning and throwing away old clothing, you will be on the right track to getting the most out of your closet space.
