Question by pookiepoo: WHere can I find ideas/examples of closet space organization?
We have very little closet space and I even have to share a clothing closet with my toddler and 8 year old. I would like to find a way to use our closet to the fullest.
We also have another closet that is fairly big and has shelves. We call it our linen closet/ library/ media closet because it holds our linen, our books and all our dvd and vcr movies.
What can I do to keep this place organized without things falling out here and there?
Thanks

When you would like to diminish disorder and organize your living area, closets are the number one idea you ought to center on. Before really taking the leap in a closet organization exercise, one should vigilantly prepare a list of what all objects need to be stashed inside an exact closet and more notably how much out of those are actually functional and needs to be retained. You can only have an useful closet organization system if you make sure to appropriately form what is desired first.
Let us now investigate the closet organization systems for different kinds of closets.
System of organizing the Bedroom Closet – Guesstimate the quantity and the diverse types of apparel that is proposed to be put in a specific closet, and thereafter opt for a closet organizer with enough space for storing dresses of all lengths. It is sensible to keep just about 20 percent of the total storage space in a closet empty for clothing that may be purchased at a upcoming date. For stuff that you use consistently you should keep them between shoulder and knee height to get at them effortlessly. Very regularly, we do not use the area above the highest shelf of the closet. You should also take your own height into consideration when placing items up high and maybe have a stool near to reach those objects that are not wanted a lot.
System of organizing the Shoe Closet – If you are someone that has tons of shoes, then it will be key to use a proper closet organization system to accomodate all of them. To break up the diverse kinds of shoes, you could decide to use separate shelves for men and ladies shoes. Kid’s shoes should if possible be stored independently in kid’s closets. Of course the actual kind of shoe is vital to opt where they ought to be on a specific shelf. Formals and office wear shoes should not be ideally kept along with casual wear or sports shoes. Afterward there are the shoe polishers and accessories that you ought to keep in a wholly different space of the shoe closet. Ladies shoes usually are available in a good deal more assortment and depending on the distinct styles that one possesses; it is a excellent plan to have separate shelves for storing platforms, heels, stilettos, flat sandals and/or fancy boots.
System of organizing the Linen Closet – The linen closet ought to be arranged by taking into importance of the size of distinct linen things like bed sheets, pillows, quilts, blankets, curtains and draperies, etc. A good plan of attack for arranging the linen closet is to group alike objects together, while placing the larger items on the base and the slighter ones on the top. To arrange a linen closet, the frequency of usage of the objects is an central concept – items that are required once in a week or more repeatedly, should be placed at a height between the shoulders and knees.
System of organizing the Kid’s Closet – Arranging the child’s closet almost certainly calls for the most systematic approach. This is simply because the child will have a difficult time maintaining the tidiness to the closet; i.e., the shelves or racks for diverse belongings like books, toys, school stuff (like crayons, etc), shoes, etc. In fact, the kid’s closet needs to be more frequently rearranged than all other closets in the house. The center of the kid’s closet is ideal for objects like books and school accessories. The lowermost rack ought to store objects like shoes, sandals and other footwear. It is on occasion necessary, particularly with younger children, to store toys, etc on a the upper shelf. The midpoint of the closet is the best for your kid’s attire to be set on hangers within the closet.

Use these tips to help you get your closet functioning in an organized way. Once it’s ready to go, you won’t have to do much maintenance throughout the year. 1. Give as much away as possible. Do a good deed while cleaning your closet. Donate clothes that don’t fit right, have small stains or are simply not your favorites. Ask your friends and family if they would like to sift through before you give them away. Another idea is to have a yard sale and make money to invest in your new closet. 2. Divide your wardrobe into summer and winter sets. Most people have way too much to fit into one closet. So, putting half of your wardrobe into storage can keep your closet looking nice and organized year round. If there isn’t room in your closet or garage to store out of season clothing, consider shallow containers that slide underneath your bed. 3. Add shelving and hanging bars. Look around the closet and see if there is room to expand. If your ceiling is high enough, you could add a second bar to the closet. You could put a shoe shelf on the bottom, the bar at about waist-high, and then build a system of shelves, drawers and cabinets above that for storage. 4. Choose storage bins that can be easily maneuvered. Be wary of buying bins, baskets or crates that are very large. Clothing is heavy. You will want containers that are easily moved around to ensure ease of use. You may want a bin for work socks, one for work-out socks, one for pajamas and one for underwear. Many closets have room on the front walls for small shelves that can hold all of these bins. 5. Thin out your shoe supply. If you can, get rid of some shoes. If you just can’t, then consider keeping yard shoes in the garage, tennis shoes in the coat closet, and dress shoes in your bedroom closet. If you want, you can store them in clear boxes so that you can see which ones are inside. Store them with cedar closet accessories or a dryer sheet so that they do not start to smell. 6. Remove things that should not be kept in your closet. Get rid of extra things that don’t belong in your closet. If you can’t figure out where to put them, then you may have to create a space. For example, sports equipment can go into an equipment organizer in the garage. 7. Hang your clothes on specialty hangers. Now that you have room for your clothes, use specialty hangers to keep them from getting snagged, misshapen or crammed together. Use <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.closethangerfactory.com”title=”Shirt Hangers”>shirt hangers</a> that are designed to curve towards the back and down on the shoulders. This will keep the shirt from getting wrinkled or squeezed between other articles of clothing. Use a skirt hanger for skirts or shorts. Make sure that the clips are smooth and do not have sharp edges that can tear your skirts. A pants hanger will keep your pants from creasing at the knee. Getting your closet in order will help you stay organized year round. Enjoy your spacious new closet!

Hi guys! I live in a dorm and have no closet and space is minimal. Any organization tips are greatly appreciated.
Alright, here are the steps I take.
1. Search through your clothes & donate the ones you no longer like or wear to charity.
2. Sort everything by lengths and then sort it into colors (takes a while but it makes things SO much easier!)
3. Buy some racks at the bottom for shoes, or JEANS! It saves space hogging up your room
4. Yah, that’s all I can think of for now. But you could maybe buy a mini dresser for extra storage space.
Oh yah, buy those bags that squish your close into a lot smaller. I forgot what they’re called.
Do you get claustrophobic walking into your closet? Most walk-ins have a bar on each side and one on the back wall. If you have any shelving back there you probably added it yourself. Closet systems are not generally installed by contractors, but this could be a good thing. The right closet system is a very personal choice. An effective closet system is one that accommodates what you own, not one that you can make your things fit into. If you are lucky enough to have a walk-in closet, then there is really a lot you can do with the space.
If you want to make the space a beautiful, high-end space to behold, wood is the way to go. Smooth wood systems make your closet smell great and look spectacular. Wooden bars and wood hangers make the space even more inviting. Wooden systems may take a little more investment on your part, but the money you spend can actually increase the value of your home and make it more desirable to buyers in the future.
The cedar closet is the ultimate wooden closet. With cedar hangers and a few other accessories, you can have a closet that rivals that of the most luxurious boutique hotels. Cedar planks or panels can be used to line the walls for the ultimate in cedar bliss. Cedar has a unique aroma that is inviting and fresh. The wood itself absorbs moisture to prevent mold and mildew from getting into your stored items. No more musty closet smell! It can be especially important to incorporate cedar products or cedar hangers into your closet system if you live in a humid climate or if your closet is near a bathroom in your home.
Wooden systems are perfect for walk-in closets because you have so much room to work with. By alternating levels of hanging bars, shelves and drawers, you can create a very attractive space. Drawers or bins with acrylic or glass fronts will allow you to see what’s inside without opening them. Using the vertical space in the closet can help you to free up space in the center so that you can take a look around and actually see what you have.
Use spaces that can’t be easily seen or accessed for storage. Corner unit cabinets are great for those hard to reach recesses of the closet. You can use a lazy Susan type of turntable to make items in the back more accessible. Use high shelves for things that you need to store. Make sure that you label storage boxes so that you can easily find what you need without tearing the closet apart looking for it!
Make sure that you make room for all of those little things that you keep in your closet. Choose the <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.everythinghangers.com”title=”Clothes Hangers”>clothes hangers</a> that best compliment your closet system style and serve the purpose that you need them to. Metal hangers save space while cedar hangers offer other benefits. Wooden hangers look great and add style to your closet. When you are done, you will never feel that claustrophobic feeling in your closet again!
