Reach-In Closet Help

Post by Jo Granville

You may possibly be frustrated with your reach-in closet, always wishing that you had a large walk-in. Even so, reach-in closets are in fact less difficult to organize than walk-in closets. Reach-in closets are nice since you can see what you have. Instead of becoming surrounded by your stuff, it is laid out flat in front of you. In fact, reach-in closets aid you to maximize space and can be simpler to maintain organized than a walk-in closet.

Think about how considerably space you have in the closet. Measure the depth, usable height, and width to get started. Attempt not to be constrained by things such as the hanging bar or leading shelf. Those shelves are usually installed at a height that is effortless to reach, not the height that takes the most advantage of the vertical space in the closet. You do not want to get too close to the closet light, but besides that, there is lots of storage space up there that normally goes unnoticed.

Yet another location that space is often wasted is in the depth of the closet. Your clothes only take up about eighteen inches of your closet depth and most reach-in closets are about twice that deep. Feel about how you could use the space a lot more effectively if you just moved the hanging bar a little further back into the closet. As long as your clothes don’t touch the wall when they are hanging on the hangers, then you can safely and effortlessly move the bar back. That space that you just made in the front of the closet can be put to fantastic use. Stack shoe boxes up 1 wall, place a laundry basket on the floor, install small shelves up the sides, or install hooks for purses, robes, backpacks and much more.

Now take a look at the closet to see where else you are wasting space. Numerous men and women are in a position to add a hanging rod once they move the leading shelf up closer to the ceiling. You can extend the top shelf to touch the front wall of the closet, giving you added storage room. You can add hanging bars to the sides of the closet to give you a place to hang longer items that would be constricted by getting two hanging bars spanning the width of the closet. Hang your brief clothing together to make space underneath for laundry, shoes, drawers, or whatever you need.

When you have got the basic style of the closet down, you can concentrate on effectively utilizing the hanging space. Space-saving hangers are a great addition to any closet. Clothes hangers that fit flat together assist to give additional space although keeping your clothes wrinkle-free. Cascading hangers allow you to double-up the hanger duty, coordinate outfits, and save double the space in the closet. Utilizing specialty hangers is a excellent way to take full benefit of the benefits that your reach-in closet delivers.

I need to have to move the litter box out of the bathroom since he gets litter everywhere (walking through it with wet feet sucks) and I don’t want him touching my hot curling iron. Q&A: How to organize your closet and jewelry?

Question by Lala: How to organize your closet and jewelry?
Okay, I just moved and i have a smaller closet than my old closet
When i try to fit everything in my closet it looks messy.
I have very few things to be hung up but I have lots of purses & shoes, I have a very small walk in closet with about 20 inches long and 12 inches wide shelves. I also have a bunch of jewelry that I need to put in there, How do i organize this stuff.

Best answer:

Answer by nivea41176
For your purses you can use shower rings. Clip a bunch of them to a regular hangar and then clip each purse strap to a ring. For your jewelry you have a few options. You can go the real cheapo way and use an egg carton. I don’t like it but they showed it on a home improvement show. Being that you have such little closet space, you could get a standing jewelry box that just stands alone as a piece of furniture. You could also put small nails or cup hooks in the closet along a side wall and hang necklaces and bracelets there and you can buy a ring stand which is just a base with a post to slide your rings on. For your shoes you could get an over the door shoe rack. Just google it and you’ll find one. Or you can keep them in a few shallow long totes and slide them under your bed. Good Luck!

I am adding a closet to a room that didn’t have a closet. I guess now this room would be considered a bedroom now. How much does that increase the value of the house on average.
Not decreasing the size at all. I’m using the eaves from the side of the house and it will be a large walk in closet

I don’t know about value, but it is a building code to have a closet in every sleeping room.

How to convert a closet to a walk in closet?

Question by Army ♥ Wife: How to convert a closet to a walk in closet?
We currently have a small walk in closet in our master bedroom…the wall at the end of the closet is actually the wall to another closet that is in the main hall way. I wanted to combine the two and make a larger walk in closet. Would this be a hard project to do? My husband has 4 days of for the 4th of July weekend and I wanted to do it then, would this be a feasible time frame?
our closet isnt “small” its just when i think of walk in closets i think of huge ones that you can have seating in, this is why i call ours a small one

Answer by sensible_man
I would not consider two small closets, combined, to be a walk-in closet. If he is handy, 4 days is plenty to frame and finish the walls.

Enjoy your Closet

image thumb Enjoy your ClosetRegardless of whether you have a walk-in closet or a little space with a door, you do not want to feel concerned when you open your closet thinking about what you’re going to wear or the proper way to find it. Make the effort, perhaps a day or a weekend, to organise and declutter your closet.

If the prevailing system of organising isn’t working for you, change it. These are some recommendations and advice to help you enjoy your closet. Forget the normal one hanging rod in the closet and your shoes lined-up along the floor. This set-up isn’t extremely accommodating and is never the proper fit for any closet. Glance at the sort of clothing you own the best of, it might be pants or sweaters and decide what the perfect way to store those items are. If you’re the owner of plenty of sweaters, hanging them isn’t advised, install some shelving so your sweaters can be folded. You can get dividers to keep your sweater stacks from toppling over. If you have pants aplenty, install a second hanging rod and put all of your pants together at eye-level or just under.

Shelving is a clever idea even if you do not own lots of sweaters. They’re flexible and may be employed for many things. Buy some cheap baskets or bins and use them to store your smaller items on top of the shelving purses, hats, belts, watches. Hooks are another must have in any closet, you may use it to store your dry cleaning before you take it in, hang your robe on, or pick out your outfit for the following day and stick it on the hook so you are good to go. Take time to plan out your perfect closet before getting started and make your system work for you.

Question by JADIEN: How do I build a closet organizer in a closet with dormered walls?
I am in the process of moving and the home I am moving to offers a very large room off of the master. I would like to turn this into a walk in closet. The problem is that all of the closet organizers I have found are for square rooms with straight walls. This room has slanted walls. From the floor to midway up the wall is straight, the other half of the wall is slanted. Can I transform this into an organized closet area and how?

Answer by bugsnthings@sbcglobal.net
if you mean slanted vertically then best, try finding a handyman that could build it to fit…

Walk-In Closets Basics For Every Home

Most new homes now come with walk in closets and the bigger the closet the bigger the “Wow” factor. Women seem to love a big walk in closet while men don’t seem to care that much. If your home doesn’t have a walk in closet, it might be time to start thinking of getting one.

All the expensive houses now come with master bedroom walk-in closet designs that are creative and big. Some of these closets are as big as a room used to be. If you choose to put a walk in closet in your old home, it may be a bit expensive because you will probably have to tear down a wall or too. There will be a monitary benefit when you sell your house, however, as your new walk-in closet should increase the value of your home.

When you have a master walk-in closet that two people use, it is important to try to have the best his and her closet organization as possible. As long as you can come up with his and her closet ideas that will satisfy both parties, there will be no hard feelings or animosity.

If you have a big walk-in closet then you definitely need good lighting. And if you have one of those really big walk in closets with maybe an island or a chest of drawers or something similar, you need to find some neat closet lighting ideas.

Track lighting is always cool looking and you might be able to put it in your large wak in closet. You can find some good deals on track lighting at Ikea and other places and if you set it up properly, your closet will be stunning.

Florescent lights are most often used in closets because they are cool (not hot). Electrical codes have distance requirements for all light sources (except LEDs that also run very cool). Closets usually have a lot of things in them with low ventilation that could easily catch on fire from an incandescent or halogen bulb. Luckily, we are talking about a large walk in closet so you will be able to use something other than florescent lights or the usual ugly light that all closets seem to come with. Just make sure you don’t have any of your clothes near the lighting.

Walk-in closets are also great because they give you so many more closet storage options. If you have a problem with your junk piling up in your room, you can have it pile up in your closet instead which is better for appearances sake.

Depending on the size of your walk in closet, you can have many things in there in addition to all your clothes and shoes. Some walk in closet ideas have full length mirrors in them and even a small bench or island to make them feel like dressing rooms.
